Vol. 568 No. 1

Written Answers. - Urban Renewal Schemes.

John Perry

Ceist:

736 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the number of applications received under the Ballyshannon town renewal scheme; the number processed and approved; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15704/03]

The town renewal plan prepared by Donegal County Council for Ballyshannon sought tax relief designation on 56 sites in the town. The independent expert panel, established to assist the town renewal designation process, has recommended that 54 of these sites should be designated for tax relief and this is the basis on which designations are now being implemented. Under the Town Renewal Act 2000 responsibility for monitoring progress with designated sites is a matter for the county council concerned and monitoring committees have been established in each county to report to the county council for this purpose. Data on the progress of specific projects, following designation, in individual towns may, therefore, appropriately be sought from the county council concerned.
