60 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the garda and health board investigation into matters arising from the Finglas Children's Centre; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16329/03]
As the Deputy may be aware, the gardaí in conjunction with the Eastern Regional Health Authority, my Department and the management of Finglas Children's Centre were engaged in a look-back investigation into allegations of abuse in relation to the centre. This investigation was initiated in 1996. The Department and Finglas Children's Centre provided every possible assistance to the gardaí and made available all relevant records. Arising from this investigation, the gardaí sent files to the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to allegations of abuse at the centre.
