Vol. 568 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Seán Crowe

Ceist:

265 Mr. Crowe asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the advanced state of disrepair of Monreagh national school, Carrigans, County Donegal, and the fact that his Department's board of works has recommended that a new school be built to replace the existing structure; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that of the 19 students currently attending the school, four are disabled; his views on whether it is unacceptable that these children should have to endure the poor facilities at the school; and his plans to provide the necessary funding. [16554/03]

The 2003 capital programme has now been published and full details in relation to individual projects are available on my Department's website at www.education.ie

An application for improved accommodation has been received from the management authorities of Monreagh national school.

The property management section of the Office of Public Works, which is acting on behalf of my Department in relation to site acquisitions generally, has been requested to explore the possibility of acquiring a site for Monreagh national school.

The budgetary allocation for 2004 and subsequent years will determine the rate of progress on all projects including the site/school building project for Monreagh national school.
