Vol. 568 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Mary Upton

Ceist:

268 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the purchase by his Department of a site (details supplied); and the commitments which have been given to the school regarding the future development of the school. [16557/03]

Section 9 of the 2003 school building programme as published on my Department's website at www.education.ie sets out the funding allocated for the purchase of sites for primary and post-primary schools.

On the basis of the budgetary allocation it was not possible to make provision in 2003 for the acquisition of a site for the school referred to by the Deputy.

However, the property management section of the Office of Public Works has been requested to report on the possibility of acquiring a site for the school. When the report is received the matter will be given further consideration.

However, the budgetary allocation for 2004 and subsequent years will determine the rate of progress on projects, including site acquisitions, that could not be included in this year's programme.
