Vol. 568 No. 5

Written Answers. - Liquor Licensing Laws.

John Deasy

Ceist:

412 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the proposed change to the licensing laws whereby public houses will be unable to allow persons under the age of 18 on their premises after a certain time will apply to musicians and workers; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16924/03]

The Intoxicating Liquor Bill 2003, which I will introduce shortly, contains a provision that will make it unlawful for a licensee to allow a person under the age of 18 years to be in the bar of the licensed premises after 8 p.m. This restriction will not apply to other parts of the premises such as dining and function rooms. The restriction in relation to bars will not apply to a son or daughter of the licensee, a person who resides in the licensed premises, a person who is passing through the bar solely for the purpose of entering or leaving another part of the premises or a person aged 16 or 17 who is employed in the licensed premises in accordance with the provisions set out in section 38 of the Intoxicating Liquor Act 1988.
