Vol. 568 No. 5

Written Answers. - Waste Management.

Pat Rabbitte

Ceist:

105 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the progress made to date in regard to his consideration of the report of the Health Research Board study commissioned by his Department into the likely effects of landfill and thermal treatment; the specific steps he intends to take to deal with the finding in the report that Ireland had insufficient resources to carry out adequate risk assessments for proposed waste management facilities; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16522/03]

I refer to the replies to Question No. 166 of 14 May 2003 and Question No. 222 of 28 May 2003. Following further consideration of the HRB report within my Department, it is now intended to engage further with the Department of Health and Children and the Environmental Protection Agency on the matter. It is expected that a meeting in this regard will take place later this month.
