Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Cecilia Keaveney

Ceist:

746 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the plans his Department has for the development of Greencastle Harbour, County Donegal; the timescale involved; his views on whether his Department is fully conversant with the variety of activity currently happening within the port and the pressure this places on the facilities and resources present; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20199/03]

Greencastle Harbour is owned by Donegal County Council and responsibility for its maintenance and development is a matter for the county council in the first instance.

In 2003 I approved grant aid of €40,000 towards the completion of design work at Greencastle. Development proposals for Greencastle Harbour area, as you are aware, among the many proposals put forward for inclusion in the ongoing national fishery harbour development programme. It is not possible to provide exchequer funding for Greencastle Harbour development in 2003. However, the position will be kept under review in the context of whatever exchequer funding is made available in the 2004-07 period for fishery harbour development projects and overall national priorities.
