Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Disability Support Service.

Finian McGrath

Ceist:

1131 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the amount of public money which was spent on the People with Disabilities in Ireland conference, Youth - Beyond Disability, in Dublin Castle on 2 September 2003; and the amount of finance spent on conferences and seminars relating to disabilities in 2002. [19945/03]

The Youth – Beyond Disability conference was organised by People with Disabilities in Ireland, PwDI, as part of the programme of events to mark European Year of People with Disabilities. This conference was sponsored by my Department. While the final payments have not yet been made in respect of this conference it is expected that the final cost will be approximately €57,000.

In preparation for the European Year of People with Disabilities my Department funded four regional Youth – Beyond Disability seminars during 2002, also organised by PwDI. The total paid for these regional seminars was €89,612. This funding represents the total sum allocated by my Department from it's available budget for conferences or seminars on disability issues during 2002.
