Vol. 571 No. 1

Written Answers. - Road Network.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

1252 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the rate of compensation being paid to landowners whose land is acquired for the development of regional roads; and if he will now decide on a fixed rate for the acquisition of lands at the same rate of compensation as the National Roads Authority and the IFA agreed rate for national roads and motorways. [19732/03]

Ceist:

1272 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government why farmers in County Kildare are not being given the benefit of a deal made for national roads and motorways with the IFA in the case of the R402 Enfield to Edenderry improvement scheme, where the regional road is being widened and is splitting up many farms in the area. [20170/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 1252 and 1272 together.

The agreement between the Irish Farmers Association, the National Roads Authority and the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, which was at that time the appropriate central Government Department responsible for national roads, in December 2001, concerned national roads. There are no proposals to extend this agreement to include non-national road schemes.

The question of the rate of compensation payable to landowners whose land is acquired for the development of regional roads is a matter for the local authority concerned in accordance with the relevant statutory arrangements.
