Vol. 572 No. 3

Written Answers. - State Airports.

Róisín Shortall

Ceist:

444 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Transport the status of the recent ERM report on public safety zones which was commissioned by his Department; his views on the findings of this report; the actions which he proposes to take to implement its recommendations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23460/03]

The environmental resources management, ERM, report, which makes recommendations for public safety zones in the vicinity of Cork, Dublin and Shannon Airports is now complete. The report was formally submitted to my Department on 30 September 2003 and is still being examined. As indicated in answers to previous questions on this matter, it is intended that the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, subject to his and my approval of the report, will use its findings to issue planning guidelines to the local authorities to assist them in their consideration of the public safety aspects of planning applications in the vicinity of airports.
