Vol. 572 No. 4

Written Answers. - Aviation Safety Standards.

Billy Timmins

Ceist:

187 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Transport the position in relation to a report (details supplied) amending Council Regulation (EEC) No. 3922/91 on the harmonisation of technical requirements and administrative procedures in the field of civil aviation; if an amendment to the proposed legislation to reflect the view of the Irish Airline Pilots Association that the Council of Ministers must recognise that if this legislation is to formulate the basis of duty time limitations within Europe then it is critical that the proposed limits should also reflect the scientific and medical evidence currently available; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23623/03]

Following a meeting with the IALPA on 12 February I am aware of its concerns and those of the European Cockpit Association

The day-to-day oversight of aviation safety falls within the responsibility of the Irish Aviation Authority. It is examining the proposals and will give its view on the completion of same.

In so far as this proposal may lead to legislative changes, I always give the highest priority to safety matters.
