Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the position regarding the implementation of SERPANT in County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23668/03]

Fibre optic networks are currently under construction in Waterford City and Dungarvan as part of SERPANT – the south-east region public access network for telecommunications.

When completed, the Waterford city network will be 18 kms in length, and will cost €3.68 million. It is expected to be operational in July 2004.

The Dungarvan network will be 9 kms and will cost €1.9 million. It is expected to be completed in April 2004.
