Vol. 572 No. 5

Adjournment Debate. - Rail Services.

Seán Crowe

Ceist:

148 Mr. Crowe asked the Minister for Transport if he will request officials of his Department to carry out a cost benefit analysis in conjunction with officials from the Six Counties on the advisability of constructing a new Dublin to Derry railway line. [23812/03]

The strategic rail review provides the Government with a general framework for the future development of passenger and freight rail services in Ireland. The consultants who undertook the review engaged in a public consultation process and received numerous rail proposals from over 150 submissions. There were no proposals received regarding the possibility of a direct Dublin to Derry route. At present I have no plans to carry out a cost benefit analysis on this proposal.
