Vol. 572 No. 5

Adjournment Debate. - Garda Stations.

Dan Boyle

Ceist:

165 Mr. Boyle asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his views on whether Garda station facilities in Ballincollig, County Cork, are deemed adequate for a staff of 25 gardaí and clerical assistants that have to share a common toilet; and if it is envisaged that new station facilities will be made available in the near future. [23803/03]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that they consider a new station to be required in Ballincollig. In that connection, as a first step in the process, the Office of Public Works needs to secure a suitable site. When that has been achieved, consideration can be given to addressing the Garda requirements. As with all such projects, I should point out that progress will be achieved as quickly as overall priorities within the Garda building programme and the availability of financial and other resources allow.
