259 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government if his Department has considered the use of destructive distillation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24357/03]
I assume that the question refers to thermochemical processes such as pyrolysis and gasification as a means of treating waste. Government policy as set out in the Changing Our Ways policy statement recognises the scope for using such treatment processes. Furthermore, the regional waste management plans adopted by the local authorities are open to the procurement of different technologies as a means of achieving compliance with national waste performance targets.
