Vol. 573 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

John Bruton

Ceist:

172 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the building programme his Department is initiating for Coole national school; when funds will be allocated to allow the school to provide this very necessary accommodation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24377/03]

An application for grant aid for improvement works at Coole national school is currently being examined in the school planning section of my Department. On completion of the examination, a decision in the matter will issue to the school management authority.

Given the level of commitments to be met from projects already under construction in the school building programme for 2003 as published, my Department does not envisage that it will be in a position to allow further large-scale building projects to commence architectural planning this year. The timing of commencement of architectural planning for individual projects is dependent on the financial allocation for 2004 and subsequent years and the competing priorities for that funding by reference to the published criteria for prioritising large scale building projects.
