Vol. 573 No. 2

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

186 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs the reason a person (details supplied) in England is not receiving free travel. [24617/03]

To qualify for a free travel pass from my Department a person must be permanently resident in the State. As the person concerned resides in England she is not entitled to a free travel pass.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

187 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs the reason one parent family allowance has not been restored in the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kildare; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [24742/03]

During a routine review of the entitlement to one parent family payment of the person concerned, it came to light that she had income which had not been disclosed. Information was requested in relation to this income and it has not been supplied. A deciding officer was not satisfied that she continued to satisfy the means test for entitlement and decided to terminate her payment in October. She was informed of this decision and of her right to appeal. Her entitle ment will be reviewed by the deciding officer if the required information in relation to the moneys concerned is supplied.

Under social welfare legislation decisions on claims are made by deciding officers and appeals officers. These officers are statutorily appointed and I have no role in regard to making such decisions.
