Vol. 573 No. 2

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Gerard Murphy

Ceist:

96 Mr. Murphy asked the Minister for Finance if Kanturk, County Cork, is being considered for a decentralised Government office. [24639/03]

The Government remains committed to moving forward the progressive decentralisation of Government offices and agencies. However, a wide range of important issues, including the national spatial strategy, have to be considered before a final decision by the Government is taken on the mat ter. It is vital that all involved are consulted, be they staff concerned about their futures or departmental management concerned about the delivery of the public services for which they have responsibility.

All of the many submissions and representations which have been received by my Department, including those received on behalf of Kanturk, County Cork, will be taken into account as part of the deliberative process but until a final decision is taken it is not possible to state which locations will be included or excluded from the programme.
