Vol. 573 No. 3

Written Answers. - Road Signage.

Seán Crowe

Ceist:

537 Mr. Crowe asked the Minister for Transport if his attention has been drawn to the new signage to be used in the Dublin area; and if there are problems in relation to the signage. [25234/03]

The provision of traffic signs is a matter in the first instance for each individual local authority. The signs they can provide must however be in compliance with the terms of either traffic signs regulations, in the case of all regulatory traffic signs, or with a direction that I may issue.

Such a direction was issued to road authorities in August 2003 in relation to the use of signs to provide directional advice based on the use of orbital routes. Dublin City Council has now provided signs based on that direction for the purpose of designating two separate orbital routes around the city. The determination of the location and content of each of the signs provided, as part of that signage programme, is a matter for the determination of the city council.
