Vol. 573 No. 3

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Paul Connaughton

Ceist:

226 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when the 2003 suckler cow grant will be awarded to a person (details supplied) in County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25206/03]

The person named applied on 56 animals under the 2003 suckler cow premium scheme on 28 April 2003. When processing the application, it was found that one of the animals applied on had died. The date of death of this animal, as recorded on the cattle movement monitoring system, CMMS, is 28 April 2003. However, the person named has advised my Department that the correct date of death of the animal is 29 April and is now in the process of having the CMMS record amended to reflect the animal's correct date of death. As soon as the CMMS record is amended his application will be processed for payment.

Ceist:

227 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when the 2003 suckler cow grant and sheep premium will issue to a person (details supplied) in County Galway; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25207/03]

The person named applied for premium for nine animals under the 2003 suckler cow premium scheme and also applied for premium for 75 ewes under the 2003 ewe premium scheme. The ewe premium application has been processed to payment stage. However the herd number in this case was previously registered in the name of the husband of the person named. She has been asked by her local livestock office to submit a letter of indemnity to enable payment of the ewe premium to issue in her name.

Regarding the suckler cow claim, it was found during processing that one animal tag number GXA947054 was not eligible for payment as it was of Friesian breed. In order to be eligible for premium a suckler cow must be of a meat breed, which is any breed other than those listed at paragraph 11 of the terms and conditions of the scheme. The applicant also omitted to insert on the application form the total number of animals for which premium was being requested.

Correspondence regarding these matters issued to the person named on 25 July 2003. When these queries are resolved and as soon as the indemnity form is received the suckler premium application will be processed further.

228 Mr. Connaughton asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the reason a higher rate of ewe premium was not received by a person (details supplied) in County Galway; if this person is due further payments under this heading; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25208/03]

Payment of the 2003 ewe premium amounting to €1,260, €21 per ewe, was made on 17 October last. However to qualify for the additional supplementary premium of €420, €7 per ewe, applicants are obliged to submit a 2003 area aid application. The 2003 area aid application form for the person named was recently received in my Department. It has been accepted as a valid application and is undergoing the processing procedure. The additional supplementary premium will issue as soon as possible to the person named.
