Vol. 573 No. 4

Written Answers. - Road Network.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

283 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government if his Department will provide funding to Kildare County Council to ensure the completion of the proposed new road for Johnstownbridge to Edenderry, County Offaly; the status of the council's application; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25709/03]

The Johnstownbridge to Edenderry road improvements scheme combines two of the 49 schemes in 15 local authorities for which funding was approved in December 2000 under the grant category "non-national roads to support housing and other development". Local authorities allocated funding under this category were notified of the maximum Exchequer grant allocation available to them in respect of each of the projects approved under the programme. Local authorities draw down approved grants under the programme on the basis of progress on each scheme rather than annual allocations or demands. In this case, the overall allocation made by my Department in December 2000 was £15.5 million of which €693,000 has been drawn down to date.
