Phil Hogan

165 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the impact the collapse of the WTO at Cancun will have for Irish agriculture; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25457/03]

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

216 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food his views on the WTO talks to date with particular reference to the future of the agricultural sector here; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25877/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 141, 159, 165 and 216 together.

As there was no agreement at the WTO ministerial conference in Cancun, the international trading conditions under which Irish agriculture operates remain unchanged. Efforts will continue to bring the Doha Round to a successful conclusion. However, this process is unlikely to be completed in the short-term.

Ireland remains committed to the preservation and enhancement of the multilateral framework for international trade and to a successful conclusion of a new broadly-based agreement cover ing a range of issues, including agriculture. However, any proposals which would require any further adjustments of the Common Agricultural Policy, beyond those agreed under the mid-term review, would be unacceptable.
