Vol. 573 No. 4

Written Answers. - Trade Statistics.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

152 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if beef and lamb imports either through the EU or from third countries have shown an increase or decrease in the past five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25623/03]

The Central Statistics Office is responsible for the collection of trade statistics in relation to imports of meat and meat preparations. The table hereafter, compiled from data supplied by that office, gives the information requested by the Deputy. With regard to this table, it should be noted in certain cases, the record of import may include the reimportation of Irish products that were originally the subject of an export from this country. In the case of imports from EU countries the record may include imports of meat products already in free circulation in the EU, but which originated in third countries.
