Vol. 573 No. 5

Written Answers. - Parking Regulations.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

160 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the sums provisionally entered or realised arising from parking meter fees, parking fines, clamping or speed check fines in the past 12 months, having regard to the use of Departmental funds made available directly or indirectly; the extent to which the figures returned by Departmental auditors compare with original estimates; if he has satisfied himself with the operation from a financial viewpoint; if his Department intends to take cognisance of the financial impact of the measures when directly or indirectly allocating funds in the future; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25967/03]

The Deputy should note that only revenue collected in respect of speeding and some parking fines is returned to my Department. The revenue from parking meters and clamping, together with the remainder of parking fines, are matters for the local authorities. However, I regret that it has not been possible, within the time allowed, to compile the information necessary to answer this question. I will convey the information to the Deputy as soon as it becomes available.
