Vol. 574 No. 1

Written Answers. - Foreshore Licences.

Seamus Healy

Ceist:

321 Mr. Healy asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if he will accede to the request of the Carrick-on-Suir RAPID area implementation team, that his Department waives the cost of the foreshore licence for the development of the new marina in Carrick-on-Suir as his Department's contribution to RAPID in the town. [26455/03]

An application for a foreshore lease to allow construction and development of a 40 berth marina at Carrick-on-Suir is under consideration by my Department.

In accordance with normal procedures, my Department obtained the advice of the Valuation Office on the fair commercial valuation of the foreshore in question and communicated the details to the project proponents. They have since requested that the amount be reduced or waived.

It is not possible to accede to this request having regard to my responsibility to obtain a fair commercial return for the State's foreshore estate and the specific advice that I received from the Valuation Office.
