Vol. 574 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Projects.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

358 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of ICT projects or initiatives being undertaken by his Depart ment; the cost of each project; if they are being or have been delivered within budget and on time; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26074/03]

I have set out in the following table details of various ICT projects being undertaken in my Department. I am satisfied with the progress being made in relation to these projects. As some of these initiatives are at procurement stage, the project costs are estimated. In addition, my Department, in conjunction with the Department of Social and Family Affairs, is undertaking a major modernisation of the civil registration service. This programme includes a significant ICT component to enable electronic registration of life events, certificate production and information sharing. The system has come into operation in recent months and is already delivering significant benefits to the public. ICT investment in this system to date by my Department has been €890,000.
