Vol. 574 No. 1

Written Answers. - National Development Plan.

Paudge Connolly

Ceist:

486 Mr. Connolly asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the level of funding allocated to each county in the Border, Midlands and Western region by his Department under the various operational programmes since the establishment of the BMW regional assembly; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26153/03]

The BMW regional assembly was established and came into effect in July 1999. One of its main roles is the management of the BMW regional operational programme under the National Development Plan 2000-06.

One of the objectives of the national development plan is the fostering of balanced regional development. In so far as my Department is concerned, this involves the implementation under the economic and social infrastructure operational programme and the two regional operational programmes of measures, including social housing, water and waste water services, waste management, urban and village development, non-national roads, habitat protection and conservation and heritage conservation.

The figures set out in the following table for the different counties in the BMW region are composite figures made up of expenditure amounts and allocations. Expenditure is not allocated on a county basis under all the measures included under the operational programmes. For 2000 to 2002 the figures refer to actual expenditure by county across the different measures, for 2003 the figures are for allocations, and where there are no county allocations, actual expenditure up to the end June 2003.
