Vol. 574 No. 1

Written Answers. - Work Permits.

Willie Penrose

Ceist:

204 Mr. Penrose asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the options which are available to a professionally qualified person who is here legally on a dependant spouse visa, and who can obtain employment but is unable to do so due to the fact that a work permit is required; and is unable to obtain same unless there is a specified application from an employer for a particular job to be filled, and whereby it is clear that this person is willing and able and professionally qualified to do work; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [26417/03]

It appears from the Deputy's question that the person referred to would, in fact, be self-employed. In the circumstances, the person in question may need to apply to the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform for permission to operate a business within the State.
