Ceist:

284 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources the Act under which the current salmon farming licences for Inver Bay, County Donegal, were issued. [26640/03]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 282 to 284, inclusive, together.

The aquaculture licences in respect of salmon farming in Inver Bay, County Donegal, were granted in accordance with the Fisheries (Amendment) Act 1997. There are three such licences and no licence has been revoked. However, an application for a licence was refused on appeal by the aquaculture licences appeals board.

The conditions attached to an aquaculture licence relating to salmon farming may include limits on the numbers of fish that may be farmed or produced. Any such limits are determined on a case by case basis having regard to factors such as the nature and location of the proposed operation.
