Vol. 574 No. 3

Written Answers. - Middle East Peace Process.

Aengus Ó Snodaigh

Ceist:

152 Aengus Ó Snodaigh asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the Israeli authorities are requiring Palestinians residing in the West Bank village of Jubara to apply for permits in order to remain in their own homes, and that it is feared that the permit system may be used as a pretext for expulsion; and if he has made representations on behalf of the Government to the Israeli authorities in this matter. [27084/03]

I am very conscious that the restrictions imposed by the Israelis on the movement of Palestinians in the Occupied Territories have resulted in severe stress on the Palestinian economy and social and economic hardship for the Palestinian people. The matter of the Israeli security wall was the subject of the resumed emergency special session of the United Nations General Assembly on 21 October. On my instructions, Ireland's delegation co-sponsored the resolution entitled "Illegal Israeli actions in Occupied East Jerusalem and the rest of the Occupied Palestinian Territory". The views of the Government on the separation wall, and the hardships arising from it, have been made known to the Israeli authorities on numerous occasions and will continue to be conveyed to them at future meetings.

Question No. 153 answered with Question No. 90.
