Vol. 574 No. 3

Written Answers. - Mental Health Services.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

213 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children his views on the level of complaints reported directly to his office by the Kilkenny Advocacy Group; if he has investigated the reports; if he has replied to the queries raised; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26986/03]

I have received correspondence from a number of people in the Kilkenny area, acting on their own behalf or on behalf of others, on aspects of the mental health services. In all cases correspondence of this nature is acknowledged and due consideration given to what further action, if any, is required.

The responsibility for the provision of services rests with the health boards. Concerns about such services are generally referred to the chief executive officer of the relevant health board for investigation and direct reply. On other occasions the advice of the Inspector of Mental Hospitals is sought and he may undertake an inquiry.
