246 Mr. Cuffe asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government if site purchase grants are available to those in need of housing; and the number and cost of such grants made available countrywide and to each of the Dublin local authorities in the last year for which figures are available. No site purchase grants for individuals are provided by my Department. However, local authorities may provide subsidised housing sites at low cost to assist persons in housing need to provide their own housing. Under the terms of the scheme local authorities may determine the appropriate sale price of sites having regard to the circumstances of applicants. Statistical information on the provision of sites by local authorities is published in my Department's quarterly and annual housing statistics bulletins, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library.
