Vol. 574 No. 3
249 Mr. Cuffe asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the plans he has to provide voting rights to emigrants. [26914/03]
The statutory requirements in relation to voting rights are set out in the existing electoral code. In order to be able to vote, a person's name must be entered on the register of electors for the locality in which they ordinarily reside: their citizenship determines the polls at which they are entitled to vote. Irish citizens may vote at all polls; British citizens may vote at Dáil, European and local elections; EU citizens, other than Irish and UK citizens, may vote at European and local elections and non-EU citizens may vote at local elections only.
