Vol. 574 No. 5

Written Answers. - Health Board Funding.

Fergus O'Dowd

Ceist:

183 Mr. O'Dowd asked the Minister for Health and Children if voluntary and community organisations funded by the Northern Area Health Board, under section 65 funding to carry out drug related work, will be paid the full amount of their agreed budgets for the last quarter of 2003. [24145/03]

The provision of drug treatment services, including funding for voluntary organisations, is the statutory responsibility of the health boards. The Eastern Regional Health Authority is responsible in this case.

The authority's chief executive officer has advised it has taken account of the three area health boards' current financial position, excluding demand led schemes and projections to year end. Following discussions between the ERHA and the area boards, the authority can confirm that fourth quarter funding for section 65 organisations providing addiction services will be paid in full.
