Vol. 576 No. 1

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

199 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason moneys have not been allocated for building requirements for Coláiste Mhuire and Phádraig, Swinford, County Mayo; the moneys to be allocated for 2004; when he expects works to commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29156/03]

An application for grant aid towards improvement works, including replacement of windows, has been received from the management authorities of both schools. At present my Department is examining it. As soon as the examination is completed a decision will issue to the school authorities.

The timing of when projects can progress to architectural planning will depend on the budgetary provision for 2004 and subsequent years. It also depends on the rate of progress with existing projects in architectural planning and the priority afforded to each project by reference to the published criteria for prioritising large scale building projects.

In 1999 an extension project was completed at Coláiste Mhuire and Phádraig. The project included two science laboratories, one general classroom, one woodwork-construction room, one senior metalwork room and two mechanical drawing rooms.
