Ceist:281 Mr. Costello asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if more gardaí will be allocated in the Dublin area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28844/03]
Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.
I have been informed by the Garda authorities, who are responsible for the detailed allocation of resources, including personnel, that the personnel strength (all ranks) of the Dublin metropolitan region including those members assigned to the traffic division and the area office as at 26 November 2003 was 3,699. In addition, a further 143 probationer gardaí were allocated to the Dublin metropolitan region on 28 November 2003.
I have been further informed that Garda management will continue to appraise the policing and administrative strategy employed in the Dublin metropolitan region with a view to ensuring an effective Garda service is maintained.
