Vol. 576 No. 1

Written Answers. - Teachers' Remuneration.

Seán Power

Ceist:

183 Mr. S. Power asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide a qualified rate of pay to a person (details supplied) in County Wicklow who obtained a sports science degree at Bangor University in Wales and a PGCE at Manchester University and who worked for four years as a teacher of physical education and science in Kuwait; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28889/03]

According to the information supplied to my Department the person holds a CPSE stage 1 qualification. It is a certificate in professional studies in education, primary retraining. The course leading to the award of this qualification is aimed at teachers returning to primary teaching and is targeted at participants who already hold a primary teaching qualification.

The person concerned does not hold a primary teaching qualification. Therefore, the CPSE is not deemed sufficient for the purposes of recognition as a primary teacher and the qualified rate of pay cannot be paid in this case.
