Vol. 576 No. 5

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

211 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Finance the arrangements being made to relieve flooding in an area (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29792/03]

This matter relates to flooding on the Shannon. I received a report from the Commissioners of Public Works on the Shannon flooding problem in January of this year. After consideration of this report and discussions with the Irish Farmers Association, I asked the Office of Public Works to carry out a pre-feasibility study into possible flood relief measures on the River Shannon. This process is currently under way and involves consultation with affected landowners and other interested parties. It is expected that the pre-feasibility report will be completed early in 2004. Consideration of any further action must await completion of this report.
