Vol. 576 No. 5

Written Answers. - Pay Related Social Insurance.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

219 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Finance when a refund of PRSI payments will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30054/03]

I have been informed by the Revenue Commissioners that a claim for a refund of PRSI was received from the person concerned on 24 November 2003. The claim, which arises because the person received survivors' pension, relates to the period between 1987 and 2002. The supporting documentation supplied with the claim covers the period between the tax years of 1997-98 and 2002, however. The claim has now been processed in so far as the latter period is concerned and a refund of €2,016.58 for this period will issue shortly. In respect of the earlier period, however, arrangements are being made to verify the PRSI deductions that were actually made. This will take some additional time to resolve because the claim dates back 15 years. The Revenue Commissioners will arrange for any additional refund that may be due after this information has been established. I have been informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the person in question may be due a further PRSI refund in respect of part-time employment in recent years. As refunds in such cases are dealt with by the Department of Social and Family Affairs, the relevant papers have been forwarded to it for consideration of any possible further refund.
