228 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Finance the cost of the leased land exemption measure for farmers who enter into certain leases of farmland for the years 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 to date; the estimated cost for each of those years at the current rate if inflation is taken into consideration; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that claims for tax exemption of the income arising from the renting of farm land could not be obtained without conducting an extensive investigation of the Revenue Commissioners' records. However, it is considered that for 2000-01, which is the last full year where data relating to all types of rental income are available, a tentative estimate of the cost of the leased land relief would be approximately €9 million.
