Vol. 576 No. 5

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

311 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if he has provided funding in the 2004 Estimates to carry out essential repairs to Courtown Harbour, County Wexford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30037/03]

Courtown Harbour is owned by Wexford County Council and responsibility for its repair and maintenance rests with the local authority in the first instance.

Funding of €62,250 was allocated to Wexford County Council, under my Department's fishery harbours development programme 2002, towards repairs to the inner harbour wall at Courtown Harbour. The county council did not claim any of this allocation in 2002. In April 2003, Wexford County Council submitted a proposal for funding to carry out works to the inner harbour wall at Courtown at an estimated cost of €800,000. There were no Exchequer moneys available in 2003 for this project. The question of providing funding in the post-2003 period will depend on the amount of Exchequer funding available for works at fishery harbours generally and overall national priorities.
