Vol. 576 No. 5

Written Answers. - Social and Affordable Housing.

Seán Crowe

Ceist:

412 Mr. Crowe asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government his proposals to increase the salary ceiling for persons applying for affordable housing in view of the rising cost of housing accommodation, particularly in the Dublin area. [29760/03]

The administration of the affordable housing schemes is a matter for each local authority having regard, as appropriate, to the housing needs and circumstances of their area. While the income limit applying to these affordable housing schemes is set nationally, the application of maximum price limits and determination of the maximum mortgage loan in each case is a matter for the relevant local authority. In addition, local authorities should have regard to the purchaser's ability to repay by reference to their net household income. The terms of these schemes, including income limits, are kept under continuing review by my Department.
