Vol. 576 No. 5

Written Answers. - Job Creation.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

162 Mr. Durkan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment her success to date in identifying replacement jobs for Celbridge, County Kildare, arising from the loss of 300 jobs at a company (details supplied); and if she will make a statement on the matter. [30132/03]

In the light of the announcement by Schneider Electric of the closure of its plant early next year, it is a priority to ensure that everything possible is done to secure new investment and employment for the Celbridge area.

IDA Ireland, in conjunction with Schneider, is actively marketing the Celbridge facility for a replacement project. An updated profile of the facility has been circulated to IDA's network of overseas offices. IDA is hopeful that the facility, because of its quality and prime location on a stand-alone site adjacent to Dublin, will make it attractive to both existing and new investors as a location.

The company has provided consultants to advise and assist staff in seeking alternative employment and also has been working closely with FÁS.
