Written Answers. - Departmental Properties.

Paul McGrath

Ceist:

190 Mr. P. McGrath asked the Minister for Finance if his Department's site at Marlborough Street, Dublin 1, is the property of his Department; if so, the area of the site; if there are sub-letting or leases on this site; the status of the Gaelscoil on the site; if this school has a lease on this site; the status of the main building; if this is a listed or prescribed building; the status of such a designation; if his Department is involved in leasing this site or any part of it from any person, company or group; if so, the details; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31053/03]

The Department of Education and Science property at Marlborough Street is vested in the Minister for Finance as successor to the former Commissioners of Education in Ireland, subject to annual ground rents amounting to €210. The ground rents expire in about 640 years' time. The property has a site area of some 0.6 hectares. No formal legal agreement exists between the State and the Gaelscoil which is located on the site. The use of a building on the site to accommodate a crèche facility will be the subject of a legal agreement, which is currently being finalised.

A number of buildings on the property are protected structures. These are: Tyrone House, two gate lodges, Talbot House and 28 Marlborough Street. Protected structures are subject to a special planning procedure for development and refurbishment purposes. The information pertaining to the parties to the ground rents is being compiled and it will be forwarded to the Deputy as soon as it is ready.
