Ceist:

477 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Transport if he or his Department directly or indirectly funds various local authorities throughout the country; the extent to which funding has been affected by funds accruing to such local authorities from parking fees, levies, fines or other such charges; if such fees are a substitute for funding from his Department or vice versa; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Transport (Mr. Brennan):

My Department provides Exchequer funding to local authorities for specific traffic management measures, such as bus priority schemes in major urban areas, and the funding of the improvement and maintenance of the national roads network is mainly funded, through the National Roads Authority, by Exchequer funding. This funding is not affected by funds accruing to local authorities from other sources.
