516 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the position regarding the provision of Garda closed circuit television in the Finglas area; if a decision has been made on the legality of the use of privately funded closed circuit television cameras as part of a Garda scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I have been informed by the Garda authorities that the use of privately funded CCTV cameras as part of the Garda system has been considered by the CCTV advisory committee and I understand that its recommendations will issue shortly. Upon receipt of the committee's views, I expect to be in a position to decide on this matter.
I have been further informed that the issue regarding the provision of suitable space to accommodate the monitoring of CCTV cameras in Finglas Garda station is being considered with regard to the overall accommodation needs of Finglas Garda station.
