Vol. 577 No. 4

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Olwyn Enright

Ceist:

177 Ms Enright asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of resource teachers and language support teachers and hours of each allocated at a school (details supplied) in County Donegal; if these hours will be affected by circular letter CC240/03; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31483/03]

My Department has sanctioned one full-time resource teacher and 15.5 hours part-time resource teaching support to the school in question. This provision includes resource teaching support for a number of children with speech and language difficulties. All resources are sanctioned based on the assessed needs of individual children and are subject to ongoing review.

Additional applications for special educational needs supports for a number of other pupils in the school are currently being considered and the school in question will be advised of the outcome as soon as possible. The school also has the service of a learning support teacher based at the school in question and shared with three other schools in the area.
