237 Mr. Morgan asked the Minister for Health and Children when the first meeting of the national diabetes working group will be held; the reason for the delay in the group holding its first meeting; and when it is expected to report. [31542/03]
The Minister decided recently to establish a working group to examine diabetes services and to make recommendations as to how these services should be organised in the short to medium-term. The chief medical officer has been asked to chair this group which will consist of officials of the Department of Health and Children, officers of the health boards and nominees of the Diabetes Federation of Ireland. The health boards have finalised their nominations and it is hoped to hold the first meeting of the group early in 2004. The group will hope to report within a number of months of its first meeting.
