Vol. 577 No. 4

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

John Perry

Ceist:

281 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for the Environment Heritage and Local Government the proposed sewerage schemes within Counties Sligo and Leitrim that are awaiting funding from his Department; the moneys from his Department that were granted for sewerage schemes in Counties Sligo and Leitrim for 2001, 2002 and 2003; the charges that will be levied on households with regard to the operational cost of waste water treatment plants; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [31500/03]

Details of approved water services schemes in Counties Sligo and Leitrim are set out in my Department's water services investment programme, a copy of which is available in the Library. The programme sets out a timetable under which funding will be provided by my Department to facilitate the commencement of specific schemes in each of the years 2003 to 2005. Funding is also available to allow schemes included in the programme under the rural towns and villages and serviced land initiatives to proceed to construction once the contract procurement process has been completed. In addition, the programme identifies schemes that have been approved to advance through planning and to which construction start dates will be assigned in future phases of the programme.

The charging of households for water services is prohibited by law and, accordingly, no such charges arise in respect of the operation of wastewater treatment plants.

Details of recoupments by my Department to Sligo and Leitrim County Councils under the water services investment programme in respect of wastewater schemes are set out in the following table:
