Sittings and Business of the Dáil: Motion.

I move:

That, notwithstanding anything in Standing Orders:

(1) The Dáil, on its rising on Thursday, 18th December, 2003, shall adjourn until 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday, 20th January, 2004;

(2) Unless the Dáil shall otherwise order, the following arrangements shall apply in relation to the sittings of the Dáil on 20th, 21st and 22nd January, 2004:

(i) there shall be no Order of Business within the meaning of Standing Order 26(3);

(ii) there shall be no Leaders' Questions pursuant to Standing Order 26A;

(iii) oral and written questions shall not be taken;

(iv) Private Members' Business shall not be taken;

(v) matters may not be raised under the provisions of Standing Orders 21(3) or 31;

(vi) the taking of any divisions shall be postponed until immediately after the Order of Business on Tuesday, 27th January, 2004.

(3) The following arrangements shall apply in relation to the sittings of the Dáil on 20th, 21st and 22nd January, 2004:

(i) Tuesday, 20th January, 2004:

The Dáil shall sit at 2.30 p.m. and shall adjourn not later than 5.30 p.m. and the following business shall be transacted:

Statements on European Presidency

–the statements of a Minister or Minister of State and of the main spokespersons for the Fine Gael Party, the Labour Party and the Technical Group, who shall be called upon in that order, shall not exceed 20 minutes in each case;

–the statement of each other member called upon shall not exceed 20 minutes in each case;

–members may share time;

–a Minister or Minister of State shall be called upon to make a statement in reply which shall ot exceed 10 minutes.

(ii) Wednesday, 21st January, 2004:

The Dáil shall sit at 10.30 a.m. and shall adjourn not later than 4.30 p.m., the suspension of sitting under Standing Order 23(1) shall not take place, and the following business shall be transacted in the following order:

(a) Statements on the Report on the Development of Radiation Oncology Services in Ireland (to conclude at 1.30 p.m., if not previously concluded):

–the statements of a Minister or Minister of State and of the main spokespersons for the Fine Gael Party, the Labour Party and the Technical Group, who shall be called upon in that order, shall not exceed 20 minutes in each case:

–the statement of each other member called upon shall not exceed 20 minutes in each case;

–members may share time;

–a Minister or Minister of State shall be called upon to make a statement in reply which shall not exceed 10 minutes.

(b) Public Service Management (Recruitment and Appointments) Bill 2003 – Order for Second State and Second Stage (to adjourn at 4.30 p.m. if not previously concluded).

(iii) Thursday, 22nd January, 2004:

The Dáil shall sit at 10.30 a.m. and shall adjourn not later than 2.30 p.m. and the following business shall be transacted:

Criminal Justice (Joint Investigation Teams) Bill 2003 [Seanad] – Second Stage (to adjourn at 2.30 p.m., if not previously concluded).

(4) The Dáil, on its rising on Thursday, 22nd January, 2004, shall adjourn until 2.30 p.m. on Tuesday, 27th January, 2004.
